A Legacy in Focus: The Story of Fullframe Photographics
Fullframe Photographics has spent over two decades capturing the essence of South East Queensland’s dynamic spirit. From its humble beginnings as a one-person passion project to its current status as a premier commercial photography and videography studio, Fullframe has evolved into a trusted partner for brands, organisations, and storytellers across industries.
Our journey is one of innovation, collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to authenticity.
Fullframe Photographics was born in 2004, founded by visionary photographer and art director Ashley Roach in the bustling creative scene of Brisbane. With a keen eye for detail and a background in commercial imaging, Ashley launched the studio to fill a growing demand for high-quality, professional photography in Australia’s booming resource and corporate sectors.
Operating initially from modest setups in the Logan area Fullframe quickly carved out a niche in industrial and mining photography. Early projects included striking recruitment imagery for major players like WorkPac, showcasing the rugged beauty of Queensland’s mining landscapes against the backdrop of career opportunities.
Ashley’s approach was revolutionary for the time: blending technical precision with narrative storytelling.
The studio’s growth accelerated in 2007 when Ashley’s partner, Michael Roach, joined as director, bringing expertise in production and technical services. Together, the duo transformed Fullframe into a collaborative powerhouse.
This era marked Fullframe’s dive into diverse sectors: corporate headshots, event coverage, and large-scale advertising campaigns. Notable projects included behind the scenes shoots for fashion editorials (like the 2015 “The Escape” series, a Photoshop-heavy collaboration blending real world action with digital artistry) and industrial documentation for Queensland’s mining giants.
By 2015, Fullframe had solidified its reputation across South East Queensland, contributing to local economic narratives through visuals that highlighted Logan’s role as a gateway to Brisbane’s creative economy.
The mid 2010s brought fresh energy with the arrival of Travis Cottrell in 2016. Hailing from South Africa, where he honed a passion for documentary style photography amid the raw, human stories of the continent, Travis moved to Australia seeking new horizons. Starting as an assistant under the Roaches, he quickly proved indispensable, contributing to shoots like a 2017 South Bank project that captured Brisbane’s urban pulse.
As Fullframe embraced the digital video surge, services evolved to include motion graphics and branded films. Travis’s influence was evident in the studio’s shift toward more intimate, lifestyle oriented work balancing high stakes corporate gigs with serene festival coverage. By 2019, with Ashley transitioning to Director of Technical Services at Blackbox (a move after 15 years at Fullframe), the studio stood at a crossroads, poised for its next chapter amid Queensland’s post mining economic diversification.
The pivotal moment came in 2020, a year of global upheaval, when Travis Cottrell acquired Fullframe from Ashley and Michael Roach. Stepping into the role of owner and director, Travis infused the studio with his global perspective and documentary roots, steering it toward videography while honouring its photographic heritage.
Under Travis’s leadership, Fullframe has flourished, expanding its footprint in medical, council, and lifestyle sectors.
The studio’s videography arm has grown exponentially, producing polished corporate videos and event reels with a focus on authenticity and rapid delivery.
Today, Fullframe remains serving as South East Queensland’s commercial imaging ally. With over 20 years of collective expertise, we’ve photographed everything from mining behemoths to medical milestones, always prioritising genuine connections. Our team led by Travis’s creative vision continues to push boundaries. As we look ahead, Fullframe is more than a studio; it’s a frame for the future, committed to capturing Queensland’s stories with integrity, innovation, and a touch of that unmistakable Aussie grit.
Travis Cottrell
Director
Photography has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up in South Africa, where my love for capturing real, human stories first took root. In those early years, my camera was less about business and more about connection with documentary style photography that allowed me to explore people, places, and moments with honesty and depth.
When I moved to Australia in 2016, I carried that same passion with me. I began working alongside Ashley and Michael Roach at Fullframe Photographics, learning the ins and outs of the business while continuing to refine my craft behind the lens. Those years gave me the chance to photograph everything from large scale events to intimate lifestyle projects, always with an eye for authenticity.
In 2020, I was proud to take the next step, purchasing Fullframe from Ashley and Michael and stepping into the role of owner and director. Since then, I’ve worked hard to uphold the reputation they built while bringing my own style and energy to the business.
Over the past years, I’ve had the privilege of working with incredible clients – from City Parklands, where I’ve documented everything from lively festivals to serene lifestyle imagery, through to corporate, mining, medical, and council projects right across Queensland. Quick turnarounds, consistency, and a genuine approach have become hallmarks of how I work.
Today, Fullframe is not just a business to me, it’s a reflection of my journey. From a young South African with a passion for documentary photography, to an Australian business owner creating high quality imagery for some of the state’s most recognisable organisations, it’s been a path shaped by curiosity, hard work, and a love for storytelling through images.
At the heart of it all, my goal remains the same: to capture real moments with integrity, creativity, and care.
